Confederate General John Bell Hood unsuccessfully attacked William T. Sherman at Peachtree Creek. Hoods unsuccessful attack cost him 20,000 of his force of 25%. The union only had 1,800 causalities.

Confederate General John Hunt Morgan’s raiders were defeated at Buffington Island, Ohio. Morgan was seeking to escape Union army pursuers across the Ohio River at a ford opposite Buffington Island.
